Dr. Nader Tavakoli from Tehran Corona Combating Committee confirmed COVID-19 continues its upward trajectory in the capital, reaching the peak and predicted this trend will go on for another 1-2 weeks. He also asked people not to attend Qadr nights and Eid Fitr gatherings, even though Health Minister and other Islamic Republic officials have been encouraging everybody to gather for “prayers.”
Coronavirus is spreading through other provinces in Iran as well. Hormozgan Medical University Spokesperson said despite the change in color of some cities in the province, hospitalizations keep on rising. Bushehr officials report increasing number of cases and patient admissions. Fars announced constant spike in its COVID-19 deaths. Alborz is experiencing the same situation.
The Indian strain of coronavirus is suspected to be found in Bushehr and Hormozgan, waiting for confirmation from Tehran for sequencing. India is grappling with the mutated variant and breaking all records. Persepolis soccer team is supposedly quarantined in Tehran after returning from India. However, the manager says there is no quarantine because they are free to roam in the hotel with other guests! Another epic failure by the regime officials if this variant is unleashed in the country.
Vaccination chaos worsens by the day. Ministry of Health claims the second phase of vaccination program has begun on people above 80, but it only has caused confusion because there is no place for registration or making appointments! Even though the officials claim the first phase, covering healthcare staff have been completed, only 209,827 (0.24% of population) have been fully vaccinated across the country. Since February 9, 1,068,123 shots have been administered.
National Task Force Spokesman insists there would be no charge for vaccines, despite Islamic Republic President Rouhani advocating for importation by private companies. According to Dr. Raisi, the vaccination will be free for everybody and Ministry of Health would buy the jabs from importers. He took a jab at people who want to cut their turn, saying, “if anybody wants to vaccinate out of turn, they should go abroad.”
Ministry of Health Spokesperson presented her daily manipulated data. Sima Sadat Lari claimed 407 died of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours in Iran while 19,272 tested positive for the novel coronavirus. According to Iran Medical Board officials, the real figures are at least 3 times higher. Active cases continue to reach a new high every day, as seen on the graphs.
