Delta variant sets a new daily death toll record again, just 2 days after the last one! According to the underreported data of Islamic Republic Ministry of Health, 709 died of COVID-19 in Iran in the past 24 hours, active and critical cases continue to soar, increasing the chance of record-breaking numbers in upcoming days. President of Iran Medical Council has confirmed the real numbers are “much higher” and Civil Registration Organization figures indicate more than 245,000 COVID-19 deaths from February 2020 until August 21, 2021. The reality on the ground is a dreadful situation at every inch of the country, worst of all at hospitals. Between July 22 – August 22, hospitalization of COVID-19 patients has increased 110%, critical cases jumped by 63.8% and official deaths numbers by 190.4%, from the month before!
Dr. Taghi Riahi of Rasoul Akram Hospital in Tehran denied any decline in number of cases in the capital and confessed to the shortage of beds, saying they have to discharge patients earlier than appropriate and not admit the cases who are not critical enough! He expressed his regret for the increasing number of young dead and demanded more widespread and faster vaccination. Dr. Sadeghniat of Khomeini Hospital reiterated the same points and confirmed the flood of patients continues. He demanded regime officials to do “whatever necessary since no more COVID-19 patient could be admitted in Tehran!”
Khorasan Razavi (Mashhad) remains critical, Kermanshah is “extremely critical” with more than 5,000 people receiving treatments in one of its hospital complexes, and Isfahan sets a new record for its daily death toll by 45! Ardabil reports 21 deaths in 24 hours, Mazandaran has more than 2,300 COVID-19 hospitalized and Qazvin identified 737 cases in 1 day! Hamedan, in addition to admitting more children in hospitals with COVID-19 symptoms, reported full capacity and near-collapse of their healthcare system if this path continues.
In the meantime, Saeed Namaki, in his last day as the Health Minister, wrote a letter filled with lies and played the victim one last time. However, he did not pass up the opportunity to praise his work and “predictions!” He claimed he would, “at a better time, reveal more about the vaccine situation!”
Islamic Republic, no matter who is the Health Minister or the “president”, has no intention of controlling the crisis since it is using it as a weapon against its opposition in prisons and at the same time earn billions from the “homegrown vaccine” charade and hefty fines!
The chaotic vaccination process, implemented and planned by the outgoing Health Minister, as usual, was disappointing! This is one sample from Khorramabad, Kermanshah. After hours of waiting, people were turned away with no vaccine.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Health keeps releasing reports of hundreds of thousands of daily administration and importation of million doses! According to the official data, since February 9, total of 23,710,434 shots have been administered while only 6,476,773 (7.71% of Iran population) have received both shots of these ineffective vaccines. It is worth noting, Khamenei banned US and UK made vaccines for Iranians in January!
As seen on the graphs, Islamic Republic’s inaction has given the fifth wave of coronavirus in Iran, dominated by Delta variant, a momentum that nothing can stop it.
