While the world was in awe watching the “Butcher of Tehran” being sworn in as the new Islamic Republic president, and subsequently the new head of National COVID-19 Task Force, Iranians were dying behind hospital doors. The Delta variant continues to rage through Iran and the regime is unable to or does not want to make a decision to lock down Tehran or Mashhad which are two of hardest hit cities, let alone the entire country.
Numbers keep climbing and records continue being broken. Head of cemeteries (Ferdows) in Mashhad warned about the critical condition and said daily COVID-19 deaths are reaching the 3-digit territory. Mashhad Medical University official confirms the death toll is high. Dr. Qolyan said coronavirus cases and hospitalizations are still on the rise. He reported the average age of the dead is 57-60, lower than previous waves. Despite the Governor asking permission from Tehran to lock down the infested city, even airports are still open and this is how the arriving passengers from foreign countries are PCR tested. The process itself is a hazard and only 1 person is trying to test everybody!
Shortage of saline and oxygen continues across the country. In Mashhad, since hospitals are full, people have to take care of their loved ones at home and use their own oxygen supply! The electric oxygen generators are not reliable since at any moment the power may be cut, so they wait in lines for hours in order to refill an oxygen tank.
The unimaginable crisis in Gilan, Mazandaran, Golestan, Tehran, Khorasan Razavi, Isfahan, Kerman, Bushehr, Hormozgan,… is reaching the western provinces. Kermanshah announced it is closing down gyms and sports centers in the province while Ilam warns its residents to stay at home.
However, none of these reports could hinder the Islamic Republic holding Muharram gatherings. According to Khamenei’s representative in Gilan, one of the hardest hit regions in the country, Muharram mourning must be held.
Vaccination with ineffective vaccines continues across Iran. Chaos at vaccination centers has become part of the process. In Tehran, a vaccination center closes its door to people who have been waiting for at least 5 hours, without any explanation.
Officials announced arrival of another vaccine shipment from China. Hemmati, head of Red Crescent Society said 1.11million doses are in this shipment. The Islamic regime continues importing Sinopharm while it knows its efficacy and safety, especially against the Delta variant is questionable, at best. According to Ministry of Health data, since February 9, total of 14,438,861 shots have been administered across the country while only 2,933,866 (3.49% of population) are fully vaccinated.
The Ministry of Health Spokesperson claimed 434 died of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours in Iran and 38,674 tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The statistics provided by the officials have been under scrutiny since day one. Iran Medical Board officials estimate the real figures are at least 3 times higher. As seen on the graphs, active cases reach the highest level since the epidemic began in Iran and critical cases soar every day while Islamic Republic does nothing, even has reduced daily PCR testing for weeks.
