Iran Coronavirus December 17, 2021 – Fragile COVID-19 Situation

Health experts warn the COVID-19 situation in Iran is “fragile”, especially with Omicron and low vaccination rate, but Islamic Republic announces there is "no red or orange" city in the country.

COVID-19 cases surge across the globe and all countries are worried about the dominance of Omicron variant which would overrun their hospitals, but the Islamic Republic just announced there is no more “red” or “orange” cities across Iran. The regime has been refusing to provide any sequencing data and based on officials’ admissions, not many specimens are tested! The manipulated and undercounted data of the Islamic Republic have been documented many times in the past 22 months.

On the other hand, the Islamic Republic has been using the ineffective Sinopaharm and failed COVIran Barekat as the major vaccines in Iran, which according to WHO need at least 3 doses to be “effective.” But the theocratic regime claims that it has been able to “control the novel coronavirus” by the use of these shots. Official data indicate that since February 9, less than 60% of population have received 2 doses of these vaccines and only 3,460,454 (4.11% of population) have been administered 3 shots.

In reality, however, health experts keep warning that the current situation is “fragile” and people need to get their 3rd shot as soon as possible. Semnan reported increasing number of hospitalizations, urging people to go to vaccination centers for their 3rd dose. Tabriz Medical University called on eligible people to rush to vaccination centers. Deputy head of the university reported 70% have not received their 3rd shot in the East Azerbaijan province.

The Ministry of Health Spokesperson claimed 46 have died of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours and 2,196 tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Professor of Epidemiology at Tehran University believes these numbers must be multiplied by 7 and Civil Registration Organization data show more than 313,000 have died of the disease since February 2020. Graphs illustrate the ongoing crisis in Iran and forming of the new wave.
