While European Union reacted promptly to the news of new variant of COVID-19 in England and closed its borders with the UK, Islamic Republic Minister of Health “requested” flights to UK to be suspended and people coming from England to be tested. After more than 10 months of coronavirus epidemic in Iran, travelers were not being tested at the ports!
COVID-19 vaccine remains at the top of news and controversies around it continue! Secretary of Scientific Subcommittee of the National Task Force blames US sanctions again! Ghanei said, “There has been no change in the past few days. 3 companies which are working on the domestic vaccine are filing their documents with the FDA to get approval for human trials.” According to him, none of them has started their human trials. On the other hand, head of “Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order”, in charge of the companies developing COVID-19 vaccine claimed the human trial started today!
Dr. Ghanei continued, “Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are not our priority! We will import the vaccine from other countries.” He admitted there would be no domestic vaccine available until July 2021! In the meantime, Government Spokesman blamed the delay on importing coronavirus vaccine on FATF and Iran being blacklisted due to anti money laundering laws! US and WHO have repeatedly denied Islamic Republic’s officials claims.
While the manipulated data by the Ministry of Health shows decline in cases and regime’s being ready for “Fatemieh Days” and “Soleimani’s anniversary” ceremonies, provincial officials warn the circumstances are extremely fragile, especially in Tehran. Dr. Zali demanded the restrictions to be continued for the next week. He reported 2,990 admitted patients in Tehran hospitals.
Sima Sadat Lari reported 187 deaths due to COVID-19 in Iran in the past 24 hours when 6,208 tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Testing remains in the same range. Number of counties in different “color” status remains the same! Basic Reproduction Rate (R0) and graphs remain the best indicators of the devastating situation in Iran in the past 10 months.
