The President of Islamic Republic, presiding over National Corona Combating Task Force, stirred up the confusion surrounding COVID-19 vaccine, again! According to Rouhani, US sanctions and not passing FATF laws have caused delays and hurdles in the process of importing coronavirus vaccine to Iran. He continued, “We have problems” in importing the vaccine. This is when Abdolnasser Hemmati, head of Islamic Republic Central Bank announced the problem had been resolved and 200million Euro has been allocated and paid. The same day, Saeed Namaki had said, 16,800,000 doses have been purchased. Head of Pasteur Institute said they would be delivered in 6-8 weeks.
Rouhani’s disinformation continued with a contradictory statement about the number of “orange” counties. He said, “We don’t have any orange counties in the country.” In the meantime, National Task Force Spokesman announced 108 “orange” counties. The Ministry of Health Spokesperson also reported 108 “orange” counties and 340 “red” ones in her daily undercounted and discredited statistics.
Sima Sadat Lari reported 134 COVID-19 deaths while 5,760 tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours in Iran. The sharp decline in cases and deaths have been another bragging point for Islamic Republic officials when they implemented a semi-lockdown across the country after more than 9 months of the country grappling with the deadly virus. The premature reopenings after the short lived lockdown, have caused increasing number of cases in some areas of the country already. Yasouj Medical University reported increasing numbers while Abadan Medical University warned the restrictions must continue until the majority of citizens are immunized with coronavirus vaccine. Zanjan reports abiding by the health protocols has decreased with people getting used to the situation after more than 10 months.
In return, Rouhani attacked the media which report the truth and said “they’re all cheeky liars!” Coming from the President of Islamic Republic, that’s a rich statement!
