The low COVID-19 vaccination in Iran, which began on Februay 20, low turnout for second doses and long delays, have been reported by IranTrue often. However, today, Deputy Head of Ahvaz Medical University deemed the vaccination of people who delay their second dose “useless” and said they must start from square one. Khuzestan Corona Combating Committee ordered governors of counties to get people vaccinated in 1 week, even door-to-door or “however possible!”
The number of people who have not shown up for their shots have increased over months. Khamenei banned reliable US and UK made vaccines, promoting the questionable COVIran Barekat, which failed miserably, causing a deep mistrust between people and the regime, even in health matters. According to official data, only 48,545,362 (57.79% of Iran population) have received 2 doses of these vaccines.
Sinopharm, which is the major shot used in the country, has been proven ineffective and unsafe. Students 12-17 years olds have been receiving the unapproved vaccine. In the past 2 weeks that schools have reopened, many have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
Omicron remains a concern. Islamic Republic refuses to provide any sequencing details on the variants discovered in Iran, however, the officials keep denying there is no case of the new variant in the country. Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of Kermanshah expressed his worry about the next possible wave of COVID-19, especially with low protocols compliance and not being able to reach “herd immunity” with vaccination, fast enough.
The Ministry of Health Spokesperson claimed 79 have died of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours and 3,514 tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Professor of Epidemiology at Tehran University believes these numbers must be multiplied by 7 and Civil Registration Organization data show more than 312,000 have died of the disease since February 2020. Graphs illustrate the ongoing crisis in Iran and forming of the new wave.
