Khamenei has clarified everything for more than 83 million Iranians regarding COVID-19 vaccine. In a nationally televised TV speech, the “Supreme Leader” of Islamic Republic decided the fate of Iranians by saying “Importing US & UK made vaccines is forbidden!” He then justified it by saying if they could have “produced vaccine, they wouldn’t be struggling with the virus.” He added France to the list of banned countries by saying, “They have a history of sending us infected bloods.” In his March 22 speech, he claimed the novel coronavirus was the work of jinns and foreign intelligence!
The confusion surrounding the vaccine has been ongoing for weeks. Officials contradicting each other every other day and with chaos stalled the public. Until today, when Khamenei said, “I had told authorities before and now say it in public.” Meaning all those officials knew there would be no vaccine from Pfizer, Moderna or Oxford, the three widely approved and tested vaccines in the world.
December 27, Head of Red Crescent said a philanthropist had donated 150 thousand doses of Pfizer coronavirus vaccine and will be imported within the next 2 weeks. Two days ago, he said, the vaccines will be imported through the border but the timing of it is unknown. Immediately after Khamenei’s speech, the Spokesman for the institution said, the transfer is canceled now!
The outrageous one sided decision which impacts the lives of millions has made social media users start a campaign to show their frustration and anger at the dictator deciding their fate. Some bring up the rumors that Khamenei may have received vaccine himself, pointing out he wasn’t wearing a mask during his speech, contrary to his previous sightings. Healthcare workers are devastated by the news, thousands who put their lives on the line every day but any hopes they had is disappeared!
The state-controlled media have already started spreading misinformation about Pfizer, Moderna and Oxford vaccines, justifying Khamenei’s decision and showing it as he knows what’s best for everybody. Twitter deleted Khamenei’s tweets in English, Arabic and French, due to its false claims regarding COVID-19 and the vaccines.
The crisis has been ongoing for 11 months and according to officials, in best case scenario, it will take for at least another 7 months till “domestic vaccine” rolls out. That would translate to minimum of 12,000 more deaths, based on manipulated statistics of Islamic Republic.
In the meantime, Friday Prayers Imams across the country repeated the same rhetoric. The Imams are called “Supreme Leader’s Representative” in towns and cities. Their weekly mission is to influence people’s opinion through religion. While Shiraz, Fars province capital, held its first Friday Prayers after months, the Medical University reported increasing number of cases. Yasouj recorded rise in cases and deaths compared to yesterday.
Sima Sadat Lari said coronavirus situation is very fragile and it’s very unpredictable. Ministry of Health Spokesperson announced her daily undercounted data. According to her, 6,251 tested positive for coronavirus and 85 died of COVID-19 in Iran in the past 24 hours. Daily tests decreased by 3,000 from yesterday.
