In the weekly National COVID-19 Task Force, Islamic Republic President claimed, again, that 14million vulnerable people will be vaccinated by the end of his term, August 2. He also asserted that 10million doses will be “imported and administered in the next 1-2 weeks.” Considering the history of empty promises by the regime officials about COVID-19 vaccination in Iran, it is safe to assume these will have the same fate too.
However, Rouhani did admit the situation in the country is not good, despite his “thinking” that coronavirus was on its way out! National Task Force Spokesman confirmed Delta (Indian) variant has spread in all provinces and all 31 provinces are in alarming situation. Dr. Raisi also confirmed that if the virus keeps its pace, the entire county will turn “red” soon. Chairman of Tehran Corona Combating Committee admitted hospitals in the capital are at full capacity. Dr. Zali said more than 500 patients are in the ERs waiting for a bed! Head of Infectious-disease ward at Khomeini hospital in Tehran confirmed all beds are occupied and warned about the upcoming increase in death toll.
Mazandaran and Gilan join Tehran, Sistan-Baluchestan, Kerman, Hormozgan and Golestan in reaching the critical point. Increased number of cases and hospitalizations, especially critical cases, is out of control and hospital staff are overwhelmed and exhausted after fighting the virus for more than 17 months and facing 4 previous waves. Semnan officials also warn about the Delta variant and its arrival. Hamedan Governor announced the same point. Ilam is on the same boat and East Azerbaijan is slowly joining the rank. Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari reported 30% increase in cases while Hormozgan recorded 21% increase in COVID-19 deaths during last week from the week before.
Sistan-Baluchestan official says lack of basic needs, physicians and drug stores have compelled the people living in the border area to go to Pakistan for treatment! At the same time, reports of people going to Armenia for vaccination is making the rounds. Slow and chaotic process of vaccination in Iran worsens by the day, especially with contradictory and empty promises of the regime officials.
According to the Ministry of Health, since February 9, total of 8,143,406 shots have been administered and only 2,252,021 (2.68% of population) are fully vaccinated. The gap between first and second dose keeps growing while Islamic Republic considers 1 dose of Chinese Sinopharm (majority of vaccines) or Russian Sputnik V as “vaccination,” especially when Delta variant is the dominant strain in Iran.
The Ministry of Health Spokesperson released her daily manipulated report which has been dismissed by officials. Iran Medical Board believes the real numbers are at least 3 times more than the official ones. Sima Sadat Lari claimed 15,139 tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Iran in the past 24 hours and 175 died of COVID-19. As seen on the graphs, critical cases soar while daily PCR testing declines.
