Delta variant keeps breaking records in Iran on a daily basis! Highest number of coronavirus positive tests and positivity rate since the epidemic began more than 17 months ago. Tehran hospitals are filled with COVID-19 patients and Tehran Governor has ordered to add more beds for COVID patients. Bandpey announced more than 9,300 are at the capital’s hospitals now and beds must reach 11,000! Chairman of Tehran Corona Combating Committee reported more than 19,000 outpatient cases in Tehran over the past 24 hours. Number of deaths are expected to rise too.
Mazandaran is headed for “corona catastrophe” and struggling through “black days” with the Delta variant. Gilan admitted 250 COVID-19 patients in 1 day as hospitals are flooded with patients. Representave of Golestan in the “parliament” demanded answer from the Health Minister about his mismanagement of the crisis. Kouhsari said Namaki does not answer his questions! He confirmed COVID-19 patients are laying on the grounds in Golestan.
Fars hospitals are out of beds, more than 500 admitted in the past 24 hours and critical patients have soared beyond their capacity! Markazi province is experiencing the same fate and experts predict “bad days” are still ahead when death tolls start to rise! Ilam cities are critical while Isfahan authorities anticipate “dreadful” days ahead. All of these grim reports from across the country are when the fifth wave has not even reached its peak yet, according to Dr. Naji, member of COVID-19 National Task Force.
Meanwhile, healthcare staff who are at the front line fighting the virus are not even paid their low wages and benefits. Today, workers of “Imam Khomeini” hospital in Karaj took it to the streets and in front of city’s office demanding their dues. They were chanting: “Where is our money? In officials’ pockets!”
On the other hand, Islamic Republic media, as usual, are using propaganda to tell Iranians that vaccination with reliable shots in other countries, the ones that Khamenei has banned from US and UK, has yielded no result and all other countries, especially US, are struggling with the Delta variant, “Delta variant is raging through US 7 months after vaccination began!” A simple comparison between US and Iran cases since the pandemic began, show that US has had more cases until mass vaccination subdued the virus, while the Delta variant is ravaging through Iran. This comparison is based on manipulated data of Islamic Republic Ministry of Health which Iran Medical Board believes are at least 1/3 of the real figures.
On the vaccination front, the chaotic process with ineffective vaccines continue. Ministry of Health reported 10,568,549 shots have been administered in Iran since February 9 and only 2,426,697 have received both doses of Covaxin, Sinopharm, Sputnik V or AstraZeneca. The majority are vaccinated by Sinopharm. The gap between the two numbers is staggering.
Ministry of Health Spokesperson claimed 322 died of COVID-19 in Iran in the past 24 hours and 31,814 tested positive for the novel coronavirus. As seen on the graphs, daily PCR tests have reduced to the lowest level in recent months, while active and critical cases soar.
