COVID-19 vaccination process was almost suspended for 3 weeks, last week after importing 1million Sinopharm doses, the Islamic Republic officials promised another 1million will arrive “soon” and there was nothing to worry about the growing gap between the two doses of vaccines. They also stated everything was fine and the COVIran Barekat and PastoCoVac will be added to the circle to speed up mass immunization. However, 2 days after provinces were allotted certain number of doses, Dr. Ahmadi-Baloutaki, in charge of West of Ahvaz Health Network, admitted his network is out of vaccines again! He confirmed only 3,000 doses were given for 10,000 residents waiting for their second doses! Amrollah Mardani, head of East of Ahvaz Health Network, reiterated the same and said the vaccination centers are crowded when there is no vaccine! He said next Sunday more vaccines may arrive.
In the meantime, Ministry of Health Spokesperson repeated her previous claim that teachers and college professors will be vaccinated in August while college students will receive their shots in September. She said there are 200,000 professors and university personnel and 3.2 million students at universities whom will be vaccinated in batches, starting September. Sima Sadat Lari did not mention how these goals will be achieved. According to official data, since February 9, only 1,021,619 (1.21% of population) have received both of their shots while total of 5,429,004 doses have been administered across Iran.
The only vaccine claimed to have been manufactured in Iran which has received regime’s “emergency use” approval, has been priced at 200,000 Toman for each dose, 4 times more expensive than AstraZeneca. COVIran Barekat has not published any of its results, not even its animal studies. Dr. Salehi, lead researcher of the project, admitted administration of their second doses is till ongoing and the third phase of the clinical trials is not completed, it may be finished by July 22. He said the efficacy will be known by the end of the trial but at the same time claimed the vaccine is more than 85% effective! Salehi confessed the vaccine efficacy against the Delta variant is still a question mark. There are evidences that Islamic Republic has relabeled Russian and Chinese vaccines. According to Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari officials, 1million doses of it has been distributed across the country and will be used on Iranians from next week.
On the other hand, in addition to Hormozgan facing a full blown outbreak in all areas of the province, and other provinces with increasing number of coronavirus infections and COVID-19 hospitalizations, Hamedan and Gilan officials announced an uptick in their cases. Qazvin officials had to seal off a village due to an outbreak as well. However, they claim “everything is under control.”
Ministry of Health Spokesperson presented her daily manipulated data, which according to Iran Medical Board officials are at least 3 times lower than the reality on the ground. Sima Sadat Lari claimed 11,059 tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours in Iran while 112 died of COVID-19. She failed to mention any specific information on Delta (Indian) variant cases while the strain is spreading in southern provinces.
