Secretary of National Scientific Committee confessed the uptrend in cases has begun and predicted the fifth wave of coronavirus may begin by mid-July. Dr. Fatemeh Abedini cited the increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in southern parts of the country is reaching other provinces. She said the wave has begun in Hormozgan, Sistan-Baluchestan and Bushehr, moving up to Kerman, Yazd, Markazi and South Khorasan. Abedini admitted Tehran is experiencing a spike in outpatients too and confirmed most cases are caused by Delta (Indian) variant. She added the current trend involves the younger generation more!
Head of Shahid Beheshti University Virology Department admitted the fourth wave is not controlled in Iran yet and the fifth one dominated by Delta variant is on its way! Dr. Naji cited more than 100 daily COVID-19 deaths saying this is a red alarm. He sounded the alarm that this variant is vaccine-evasive and is resurging in UK and other countries with high vaccination rate, but even then, the inoculation in Iran is going too slowly! He requested the government must change the “colorization” criteria and include outpatient numbers. Dr. Younesian, an epidemiologist, believes the fifth wave has already begun and since Iran is a vast country, each part of the country grapples with a breakout at a different time. He rebuked the lack of sequencing facilities in the country and said everything is based on “guessing game,” but Delta variant seems to be the culprit in the new uptrend.
Many provinces report rising infections. Gilan recorded more COVID-19 hospitalizations. Ahar officials in East Azerbaijan province sounded the alarm for the fifth wave with a sharp rise in cases in the city. Hormozgan Governor expressed his concern over uptick in COVID-19 deaths. Dr. Qolyan from Mashhad Medical University announced the decline in infections has stopped in Khorasan Razavi province. Head of Abadan Medical College warned about the next wave while the southwest region of Khuzestan is still struggling to pass the fourth trend. Ardabil authorities report cases are on the rise, too.
On the other hand, the regime’s vaccination charade continues with more propaganda messages and shows. Mr. Health Minister and Hossein Salami, IRGC Commander-in-Chief, “promised” there would be no shortage of vaccines while saying the Islamic Republic is reaching to a point that would expot vaccines to “poor countries” and the US! Islamic Republic continues unveiling “new vaccines” while no result for any of them has been published! Today, IRGC introduced “Noora!”
While the US has donated millions of doses to developing countries and Iran cannot receive any because Khamenei banned US and UK made vaccines, Iranians have been suffering from regime’s mismanagement for 17 months, shortage of jabs and indignity of waiting in lines for hours without any shot! According to local reports, people have to wait in lines for more than 12 hours, crowds gather with no organization and recently, turns are on sale for 100,000 Toman per hour! Some have chosen to go to other countries such as UAE or Armenia to get a jab instead of being indignant, while those countries boost their tourism industry.
Official data indicate since February 9, total of 5,709,020 shots have been administered and only 1,288,777 are fully vaccinated.
Sima Sadat Lari presented her daily manipulated data claiming 9,758 tested positive for the novel coronavirus and 134 died of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours in Iran. Ministry of Health Spokesperson did not provide any details about the variants. However, she admitted the decline trend has stopped and outpatient cases are on the rise across the south and Tehran. According to Iran Medical Board officials, the real figures are at least 3 times higher than the daily reports. The graphs illustrate the ongoing human catastrophe in Iran in the past 17 months.
