Deputy Governor of Hormozgan in Political and Security warns the COVID-19 situation in the province worsens by the day! According to him, one of the main reasons is weddings and funerals, asking officials to use security forces to close down venues. Hormozgan Medical University Spokesperson announced addition of 4 cities to “red” status, indicating a spike in COVID-19 hospitalizations and coronavirus cases. Dr. Norouzian reported 8,397 self-quarantined cases in the province in addition to admitted patients. Indian (Delta) and South African (Beta) variants of coronavirus have been confirmed in the province but officials refuse to announce the exact number of cases.
Director of Western Ahvaz Health Network reported an uptake in the number of outpatient coronavirus cases in Khuzestan. Ahmadi-Baloutaki cited gatherings and travels as the main reasons for the rise. He warned that the situation would intensify if this path continues. While travel ban was supposed to be implemented during the long weekend, according to ISNA, traveling between provinces has increased and the ban has not been enforced.
The average cases and deaths based on the underreported and manipulated data of Ministry of Health in the past 10 days indicate, 412 tested positive for the novel coronavirus and 7-8 died of COVID-19 every hour in Iran. Even though US has made its surplus vaccines available to other countries and exiled Shahbanou Farah Pahlavi wrote a letter to WHO asking for some of those vaccines to be sent to Iran, Khamenei has banned the US and UK vaccines since January, causing more deaths every day!
Ministry of Health announced a total of 4,693,498 shots administered since February 9 while only 536,643 have been fully vaccinated by AstraZeneca, Covaxin, Sputnik V and Sinopharm. The big gap between first dose takers and fully vaccinated has created concerns over shortage of vaccines even more than before, causing the vaccination moot with late second doses administered.
The Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health claimed 155 died of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours in Iran while 9,209 tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Sima Sadat Lari did not provide specific variant information. As seen on the graphs, the fourth wave continues when the fifth wave is on its way. Iran Medical Board officials estimate the real number of cases and deaths are at least 3 times higher than the daily reports.
