Deputy Head of Shiraz Medical University in Treatment Affairs announced that ICU beds in all referral hospitals across Fars province are almost at full capacity, confirming the number of critical COVID-19 cases are on the rise. Dr. Tavakoli from Tehran Corona Combating Committee confirmed the spike in hospitalizations and deaths in the capital in the past week. He expressed his worry about the uptrend of coronavirus cases in Tehran and 15% rise in hospitalizations across the province. Head of Imam Khomeini hospital in Tehran reiterated the worsening situation, saying the number of admissions has doubled in the past week. Dr. Tabarsi, head of Infectious ward at Masih Daneshvari Hospital in Tehran reported filled up beds in his hospital and warned that in next 2 weeks, hospitals will be overwhelmed and saturated. He said there would be an increase in COVID-19 deaths in the upcoming weeks. He rebuked the officials for allowing people to travel, saying people should not be blamed all the time!
Khuzestan remains critical. Ahvaz’s Razi hospital reported all beds in general and ICU wards are filled with COVID-19 patients. Dr. Sharif begged people to follow the protocols so healthcare staff could rest for a few days, after 13 months struggling with the virus. Mashhad Medical University confirmed increasing number of outpatient COVID-19 cases across the second biggest city in Iran. Qolyan said in a randomized test from hospitalized patients, 50% were infected with the fast-spreading deadlier UK variant of coronavirus.
Sanandaj, capital of Kurdistan, warns about worsening COVID-19 situation in the province by rising number of patients. Hormozgan officials reported another cluster of UK variant infections in the province, bringing the total to 399! Ilam authorities also recorded spiking coronavirus infections with reaching 3-digit daily cases.
The vaccination remains a chaotic subject in Iran with new rumors every day. There are rumors that Cuban vaccine is being tested on individuals without them knowing. In the past few days, Islamic Republic controlled media have been publishing different numbers in Shiraz, Mashhad, Khuzestan,… about municipal workers getting vaccinated, while there are not enough vaccine imported to reach them! Kianush Jahanpur denies the rumors! On the other hand, FDA Spokesman admits Islamic Republic is behind its “plans” and blame it on the manufacturers. He added the collaboration with Russia to manufacture Sputnik V in Iran is also postponed. He normalized it all by saying everywhere in the world is facing the same issue! Islamic Republic has only been using Chinese Sinopharm and Russian Sputnik V. Indian Covaxin was mentioned by Jahanpur in the past, but there has been no report of when or how many doses have been imported.
Sima Sadat Lari announced her daily manipulated numbers, which are criticized widely for the past 13 months and even Iran Medical Board officials admitted the real figures are at least 3 times higher. Ministry of Health Spokesperson claimed 97 died of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours in Iran while 7,506 tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Testing remains in the same range while critical and active cases continue to rise as seen on the graphs.
