As predicted the active cases and new daily infected cases have increased drastically in the past few days even based on the made-up numbers by the Ministry of Health. Today’s 2,102 cases is the highest number of new patients since April 6 in a 24-hour period. Officials in Khuzestan, Kerman, Hormozgan, Fars, Kurdistan and Sistan&Baluchestan sound the alarm for an uptrend in their respective provinces.
Among all those, Khuzestan seems to be in the worst predicament. 424 new cases and 16 deaths on May 14 are announced by Ahvaz’s Medical University. They had 553 COVID-19 patients the day before. In the meantime, Khuzestan Governor admitted 60% increase in admissions and walk-in cases have increased 3 folds. He said the increased stats could be due to a more active case finding. “We have tested 1275 people in the past 24 hours and will try to make it 1500.” 424 positive results in 1275 tests means 1 in 3 tested positive!
A member of Khuzestan Corona Combating Committee revealed, “We’ve been against the reopening of businesses. 2-3 weeks after that we asked Tehran to allow us roll back the restrictions but they opposed it.” He said, “with the increase in numbers and this critical condition, we will definitely see the increase in deaths and also overwhelming of our hospitals” which will cause a vicious cycle! Since April 11 that the country has reopened, Khuzestan’s admission rate of 50-70 has jumped to 160-190 per day.
Head of Hormozgan’s Medical University announced 79 new cases in the province, warning if this continues we will be imposing lockdowns and travel restrictions. Fars officials announce 120 new cases bringing the total to 4,547 in the province. Kurdistan, Kerman and Sistan&Baluchestan announce the upward trend with 24, 35 and 21 new cases, respectively.
According to officials the daily number of infected cases is increasing but the number of deaths decreases! The number of active cases increases sharply but the critical cases fluctuates just a few here and there! The answer to how their “statistics” work is very simple: it doesn’t! Even a middle school student could figure out what they announce every day doesn’t make any sense. They do everything possible to keep the death rate around or below 7%, just to say they’ve been doing amazingly. What they’re bragging about is beyond me, people are dying and the regime and its propaganda machine think it’s a contest which they must win even by cheating! Comparing everything with US’ response to COVID-19 is comparing apple to orange, but they have to save face for their small number of supporters, nevertheless!
The basic reproduction rate is increasing faster than ever and growth factors remain above 1! The number of daily tests hasn’t changed but officials don’t hesitate to attribute the increase in cases to “active case finding”.
