Islamic Republic must be different in everything! Yesterday was “Eid Fitr” in the countries surrounding Iran but today has been announced as the occassion in Iran! Another holiday, another cancellation of the “press conference”, as if everything is going according to the plan and the country is not ravaged by poverty, distrust, corruption, and oppression! Oh, did I forget to mention Coronavirus catastrophe? Because according to Rouhani and other officials it’s been contained while 2,180 new cases and 58 deaths due to COVID-19 have been confirmed since yesterday!
Iraj Harirchi, the Deputy Health Minister, in a 1-day trip to Khuzestan said, “The situation is critical and we have to educate people more to wear masks and follow social distancing. We understand there are specific traditions people would like to perform, especially during Eid Fitr, but we ask them to refrain from going to each other’s house.” He continued, “The situation may take 2-3 weeks to get better in the province if everybody obeys the rules.” Contrary to what Rouhani and other officials have been saying about containing COVID-19, Harirchi admitted, “We need time in order to go back to normal in Khuzestan and the country.”
While Tehran, Khuzestan, Lorestan, Bushehr, and some other provinces are in red situation and on alert, the high risk businesses including restaurants, wedding venues, saunas, gyms,… will reopen from May 26! This is another petri dish added to the sea of infection sources in a country where officials want to hide the scale of the disease and the healthcare system is not equipped to deal with a deadly and contagious virus.
The majority of news agencies have stopped covering the news the way they should, only announcing the manipulated and fake official numbers, even though the regime is restricting the flow of information! Khuzestan is in critical circumstance, people are dying in Iran but most news is about the arrival of “Iranian oil tankers” to Venezuela, and if the video published by regime’s embassy in Caracas is genuine or a fake!
This attitude has caused people to think the crisis is over and here is one of the examples of how people are dealing with it! Everybody is on streets like everything is back to normal.
Growth factors and basic reproduction rate (R0) above 1, in addition to every day deaths and the increased number of active cases all point to an ongoing crisis more than 90 days in, despite what the officials may want us to believe.
According to the Ministry of Health Spokesman, 364 of the 2,180 were admitted to the hospital. He added, there has been no death in 13 provinces and 8 have only reported 1 death each in the past 24 hours. He admitted that Khuzestan is in red and alarming situation.
