“We’re dealing with an uptrend in Hormozgan for the past week. 90% of infected cases are below 40 years of age and 85% of them are asymptomatic.” Head of Hormozgan’s Medical University announces fast spread of the virus in his province, saying the province is in peak of the disease and warned about the spread of the virus in the next 1-2 weeks. According to Hossein Farshidi, 205 new cases in the past 24 hours has brought the number of total cases to 2,743. In the same time, 2 have died of COVID-19, a 63-year-old and a 24-year-old female. Coronavirus is going to the back of officials’ minds when it’s still killing and spreading throughout the country in waves.
Khuzestan’s number of cases had another jump. 629 were confirmed on Monday, May 24, bringing the tally to 11,048! There were 490 cases the day before, showing how brutally fast the disease is disseminating throughout the province! 16 have died in the same time period, making the death toll in the province, 465! Despite all this, according to Corona Combating Committee in Khuzestan, following the 5 day lockdown, all banks and government offices reopen today, May 26. He said lockdown would cost the province too much to ignore. Khuzestan entered the crisis a few weeks after the country was reopened, and still the officials haven’t learned their lesson!
Khuzestan in crisis and in desperate need of EMTs but locals report 38 EMTs were fired from Dezful, one of the cities in alarming situation, because they asked for their 3-month-delayed wages! 3 of them when they were trying to meet with Khamenei Rep in the city and 35 on Sunday night, were all fired. However, an official from the city says they were not fired and just didn’t show up to work because of the delay in receiving their wages.
An official from Gilan’s Governor office warns of the second wave in the province if social distancing is not followed by the travelers going to the beaches. He said 10 cities are already designated as “yellow”. Gilan was one of the epicenters, in addition to Qom, in the beginning of the outbreak and has been one of the hardest hit by the virus in terms of death toll!
Anybody reading this report from north and south of the country, would think that COVID-19 crisis is not over in Iran but the officials and media act like it has, despite all experts warnings! For example, Tehran City Council had announced traffic rules will be in effect from this morning, May 26, but within hours, the National Corona Combating Committee disagreed with their decision and disregarded their directive saying there would be no traffic plan in Tehran until further notice when the “Committee will discuss it in their meeting.”
