Iran Coronavirus November 16 – Semi-Lockdown & Breaking All Daily Records

A "comprehensive" plan to combat coronavirus in Iran is going into effect from November 21. However, it's not a "total lockdown." COVID-19 broke all daily records, again!

More details about the “comprehensive dynamic plan to combat corona(virus)” has been released. Raisi, National Task Force Spokesman, said “all businesses and services will be closed, except essential businesses like supermarkets, drugstores,… also 1/3 of government employees should attend work.” He added, in “red” and “orange” areas, only cars with domestic license plates are allowed to enter, and nobody could exit. Otherwise, hefty fines will be issued by police and the cameras across the country!

The “comprehensive dynamic plan” doesn’t seem like a total lockdown as advertised before. However, it’s to be implemented from November 21 in 150 big cities across Iran including 25 province capitals. While Tehran is included in the plan, the Interior Minister vows to enforce all protocols to the tee without any exception. Since the COVID-19 epidemic began in Iran, more than 9 months ago, there hasn’t been a single plan or protocol that was enforced properly.

Since day one, Rouhani and other officials resisted the idea of widespread lockdown due to economic hardships. Rouhani had said, “Lockdown might be the easiest way, but it will make people hungry and they would take it to the streets.” While that might be true, but refusing to quarantine Qom and Gilan as the first two epicenters in Iran because of fictional beliefs and religious nonsense, is what has brought the entire country on the verge of collapse! Saeed Namaki admitted, “the longer COVID-19 crisis takes, the more negative impacts it would have on every aspect of our lives.” An epiphany Islamic Republic officials reached, 42,000 lives too late!

Sima Sadat Lari announced the daily undercounted data, as usual. COVID-19 broke all daily records once again. 13,053 new cases tested positive for coronavirus while 486 died of the disease in the past 24 hours. However, Sadat Lari warned that the upcoming winter would be even worse! The daily reports provided by Ministry of Health Spokesperson have been the source of skepticism since the epidemic began, but today, Interior Minister told Governors from across the country “not to manipulate and fake data, since this is people’s lives and Dr.Namaki makes decisions based on these data.”

Basic Reproduction Rate (R0) keeps jumping multiple points every day, graphs show the overwhelming number of active cases and critical cases continue to rise! Testing remains in the same 39-40,000 range but the positivity rate is increasing on a daily basis. 500 less tests have been performed in the past 24 hours compared to the day before, but positivity rate increased from 30.68% to 32.33%!
R0: 3.07
Total: 775,121 (+13,053)
Dead: 41,979 (+486)
Recovered: 564,699
Critical: 5,677 (+11)
Admitted: 168,443 (+6,686)
Tests: 5,545,444 (6.6% of the population, assuming each test was performed on 1 person)
