As IranTrue has been reporting, COVID-19 cases continue to rise. Islamic Republic media tried to use the long holiday when the manipulated data of Ministry of Health showed lower numbers, as a victory for the Raisi’s administration. However, the new week’s statistics indicate a significant increase in cases, hospitalizations and death toll, as shown by the growth factors and the graphs. In the meantime, Deputy Health Minister in Public Health admitted premature reopenings and (religious) gatherings could lead to the sixth wave of COVID-19 in Iran from next month. Dr. Heydari, however, said the “smart quarantine” protocols will be announced by October 22, after National Task Force approves them.
Chairman of Tehran Corona Combating Committee confirmed the majority of people are not fully vaccinated yet and the situation is “unstable and extremely fragile!” He reiterated that vaccination alone would not be enough to control the virus. Suspected cases of COVID-19 in a kindergarten in Deylam of Bushehr province, forced all kindergartens to shut down. Alborz and Fars continue reporting 2-digit daily deaths and East Azerbaijan announced more than 1,400 patients are hospitalized in the province’s hospitals.
After Arbaeen “pilgrims” have returned to the country and possibly causing another outbreak, Islamic Republic officials admit “there were some disorganization” in the process! In response, the Hajj & Pilgrim Organization blamed everything on the Ministry of Health and its subsidiaries!
Despite all the warnings, Islamic Republic officials insist on reopening universities with in-person classes as soon as mid-November. Regime authorities claim “all students have been vaccinated or will be by then!” However, local reports tell a different story.
On the other hand, Islamic Republic Health Minister brags to the representative of international organizations about the “flood of vaccines” to Iran. He blames the low number of vaccination by July on US sanctions and silence of the international community, but in his next sentence, spouts off about millions of doses of vaccines administered since August! He failed to mention anything about banning of US and UK made vaccines by Khamenei, or empty promises of the current Vice President, IRGC and other officials about the “domestic vaccines.” Eynollahi even went a step further and proposed his team to become role model for other countries with low vaccination rate. Mr. Health Minister did follow his previous speeches and lied about his goals to the international bodies, a common pattern for the Islamic Republic officials. Eynollahi claimed the goal is to have 85% of population (about 71.5m) vaccinated, however, he had previously announced 70% was enough and “national vaccination celebration” would be in order!
Additionally, ISPA, a state-sponsored pollster, released its most recent survey about vaccination. It shows, 14.2% of Iranians do not want to vaccinate, of which 4.4% will not use any vaccine. 30% said they will administer other vaccines which are not not currently used in Iran. That is about 25.2million people whom want a more reliable vaccine, the ones that Khamenei has banned.
The Ministry of Health Spokesperson claimed 222 have died of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours and 11,256 tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Professor of Epidemiology at Tehran University believes these numbers must be multiplied by 7 and Civil Registration Organization data show more than 294,000 have died of the disease since February 2020.
