COVID-19 critical provinces in Iran reaches 30! That’s 1 short of the entire country, according to Ministry of Health Spokesperson, despite the fact that Harirchi, Deputy Health Minister, has already declared all 31 provinces as “red” and critical. While number of cases increases, critical patients number has surpassed 4,000 and new cases have spikes across the country, Education Ministry refuses to close the schools and go all online, saying “it’s National Task Force’s decision.”
More students have tested positive in different parts of the country. But Iraj Harirchi says less than 10% of students are attending in-person classes. In response to news of 2,000 deaths among minors and students since the epidemic began in Iran, he said, “There have been about 10,000 infections and between 100-200 deaths which is not too many!” It’s worth noting that considering 83,000,000 population in Iran and less than 14,000,000 students, the per capita deaths for minors is too much compared to other countries. Harirchi continued by blaming people again, saying most infections and deaths have happened in families and at homes, “there hasn’t been too many infections from recent schools reopening.”
Despite Harirchi’s admission that if schools become mandatory or more students attend the situation could get worse but National Task Force hasn’t granted many provinces’ wishes to close down schools altogether. According to provincial officials opened schools with no student attending makes it more dangerous for staff and teachers.
Furthermore, Harirchi admits if the government doesn’t do enough and more restrictions are not in place, there could be 600 daily deaths in October and according to some estimations that could reach 900 deaths per day by late November early December! If the past 7 months are any indication, Islamic Republic has no intention of doing anything.
Sima Sadat Lari continues to star in her daily show to present highly scrutinized and discredited stats provided by the Ministry! She announced 3,512 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 190 deaths in the past 24 hours. Hospitals report full beds and exhausted resources, including their staff. A group of nurse arranged a gathering to protest against unpaid wages and benefits a day after Saeed Namaki said he returned the money allocated to them back to the government!
Basic Reproduction Rate (R0) increased again by 3 points and graphs show rising active cases going through the roof, indicating the ongoing and worsening COVID-19 human catastrophe in Iran while media are mostly focused on political scandals and analysis of unknown and unpredictable situations.
