Saeed Namaki wrote a letter to WHO Director General asking for his help to end the US sanctions on Islamic Republic! This is not the first time an Islamic Republic official is begging for the sanctions to be over and sadly it’s not the first time they lie on an official letter to international organizations either! He states that “businesses reopened from 3 months ago,” and “all protocols including schools reopening” have been in line with WHO directives. Almost all businesses reopened on April 11 across the country and on April 18 in Tehran. Despite WHO recommendations about not having any gathering in prevalent areas, Ramdan, Eid Fitr, and Muharram gatherings were held across the country, including “red” regions!
Regarding schools reopening, every day in the past week, we have reported about the chaos at the highest levels of the government! Until yesterday that Education Minister announced in person classes are not mandatory! According to WHO directives, each school, city, county and province should decide about its current condition and decide whether it’s safe to reopen the school for in person attendance. If there are less than 10 cases in every 100k in a week and positivity rate is less than 5%, the schools could be reopened only if parents, students and the schools are ready to implement proper protocols. Not a single school in Iran would meet these criteria, but National Task Force and Education Ministry mandated in person attendance for every student in the country!
On the other hand, President of Islamic Republic and Namaki have always been arrogantly commenting about “controlling the virus” despite the sanctions, saying “EU countries are calling us to know about our model,” but apparently, 7 months of lies about COVID-19 crisis is about to reveal that Islamic Republic hasn’t even allocated proper and enough resources for importing and producing enough medicine for patients in need! Even the 1 billion EUR Khamenei “allowed” them to use from National Development Fund has gone missing and Ministry of Health has only received 30% of it after 6 months! There are whispers of increasing prices and shortages in pharmaceutical industry, especially by the end of September! Considering all shortages and healthcare system already collapsing, if it’s proven that influenza virus and novel coronavirus could infect people at the same time, calling it “twindemic”, the human catastrophe in Iran would be beyond anybody’s imagination.
Muharram gatherings are showing their effects! Sima Sadat Lari announced 2,302 new confirmed cases and 132 deaths in the past 24 hours. The same 28 provinces remain critical and active cases closing on the highest point since the beginning of the pandemic in Iran, with 31,156 patients. The highest ever was on June 21 with 31,738. Even though graphs are based on the widely scrutinized and proven manipulations by the regime, but still are the best indicators on showing different aspects of the COVID-19 crisis in Iran in the past 7 months!
