On November 16, 2022, Islamic Republic media reported a “terrorist attack” in Khane Isfahan (Isfahan House). Tasnim News, IRGC Intelligence media, wrote: “Riders of a motorcycle attacked Basijis in Khane Isfahan, in which 2 were killed and 2 injured!” Later on, the identity of “martyrs” was announced: “Mohsen Hamidi and MohammadHossein Karimi!”  According to the outlet, the injured ones were from police force! In less than an hour, the story changed: “8 have been injured. 7 from police, 1 from Basij! Around 21:00, several people on 3 motorcycles, opened fire at Basij District 10 forces and escaped!”

Two days later, 6 were arrested in connection to the case. On January 9, 2023, Mizan News, Islamic Republic Judiciary’s media, reported 3 were sentenced to death:

Saleh Mirhashemi, first defendant, charged with “Muharebeh” due to “using of a handgun, creating and heading a criminal group in order to disturbing national security”, is sentenced to death! He is also sentenced to 10 years in prison for “membership and cooperation with MEK!”

Majid Kazemi, second defendant, charged with “Muharebeh” due to “using a Kalashnikov” is sentenced to death! He is also sentenced to 10 years in prison for “participating in illegal gatherings!”, another word for anti-regime protests!

Saeed Yaghoubi, third defendant, charged with “Muharebeh” due to “using a handgun” is sentenced to death! Just like Majid, he was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for speaking up against the regime.

HRANA, on May 14, released the indictment. Regime prosecutors had shown no evidence that Majid, Saleh and Saeed have even touched any gun! “Unfortunately, the guns were not found!”

The indictment mentions killing of 3 individuals that night, but at the end, defendants are not charged with “murder!”

The only evidence they provided to the judge was: “confession!” Individual confessions, and confessions of one against the other two! According to the Islamic Republic’s Penal Code, confession of defendants against each other has no merit and must not be used for judgement!

All three of them, in contact with their families, reiterated that they have been under severe beating and torture since they have been arrested. In one instance, they were held in solitary confinement for 45 days! Majid Kazemi’s brother, Hossein, wif and cousin of Saleh Mirhashemi were all threatened to put pressure on defendants for confession.

On January 13, in an audio, Majid Kazemi says: “I didn’t do anything. I have been under torture since I was arrested. I had nothing, no gun, nothing! They tortured me to say the gun was mine! They beat me to reenact the crime!” They kept beating me and told me what to say in court!” After releasing that recording, he was transferred to solitary confinement and the other two were moved to another block where their contact with the outside world was limited even more than before!

Despite all the physical and psychological torture, none of the 3 had admitted to killing or even firing at anybody. Majid Kazemi said so in court: “I did not fire at anybody!”

Threatening family members, long solitary confinement, torturing and forced confession are known tactics of the Islamic Republic against innocent dissidents. Navid Afkari’s words are still fresh in our minds: “They’re looking for a neck for their rope!” With nothing to prove guilt against anti-regime protesters, Islamic Republic uses instances such as “Khane Isfahan” case to intimidate the people and try to control the masses.

Majid Kazemi’s cousin: “Honorable people of Iran, according to what we know, Khane Isfahan defendants are set to be executed tomorrow morning! Families are on their way to Dastgerd Isfahan Prison. If you can, please do not leave them alone and be with them!”

As the theocratic regime is appeasing the West by releasing their hostages and begging US to come back to the negotiating table, executions and oppression is how it tries to pretend that “everything is normal and under control in Iran!”

It is mind-blowing and a disgrace to the world, that a regime which kills its citizens for “blasphemy, Muharebeh (Waging war against God), Ifsad fil-Arz (Spreading corruption on earth),…” and these 3 for “nothing”, to suppress its people and terrorizes the Middle East on a daily basis, gets to chair UN’s “Social Forum of Human Rights Council!”

The Western powers must ask themselves, how many innocent lives would wake their collective conscience to stand up to the cruel Ayatollahs!
